DTES Literacy Roundtable strengthens literacy as a tool towards strengthening neighbourhood priorities. Our members define literacy as having the knowledge, skills and confidence to participate full in one’s life.

Sharing a table with Jo Lemay who designed the Literacy Strategy for the neighbourhood, and talking with folks about their needs and wishes for literacy programs on DTES which Jo included in the plan which continues to guide member organizations work.

UGM at Alley Health Fair 2012
What does your organization do? UGM is an urban relief organization based in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. With seven locations throughout Metro Vancouver and the city of Mission, UGM is positioned to help those who need it most. The heart of the Mission is to demonstrate God’s transforming love, ease the burden of the most vulnerable, rebuild the lives of the broken and offer dignity to those who feel cast aside.

On Thursday, September 5th, the Carnegie Alley Health Fair celebrates its 6th anniversary! On September 5th, 2013 health and wellness service providers get together to offer connection, resources, access to wellness and information.
From 10-2pm, agencies & service providers in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside will be offering information, friendship and resources to residents in the neighbourhood. Attendees will find the South Side of the 100 Block of East Hastings full of tables.
Previous years at the Fair, visitors could experience healing touch, hair cuts, relaxation massage, a delectable meal, and much more. Selected services have included tests from Stop HIV Campaign; pap screening information from BC Lace Campaign; Mobile Access Project (Map Van’s) Services, Acupuncture and much more.
